🔍 Identification Codes
Because surface-mount device (SMD) components are so tiny, they use short alphanumeric codes to indicate their value:
- 103 (3-Digit Code): Found on standard ±5% tolerance resistors.
- How it works:
10(significant digits) ×10³(multiplier / number of zeros) = 10,000Ω = 10kΩ.
- How it works:
- 1002 (4-Digit Code): Found on precision ±1% tolerance resistors.
- How it works:
100(significant digits) ×10²(multiplier) = 10,000Ω = 10kΩ.
- How it works:
- 01C (EIA-96 Code): Found on ultra-small or specialized 1% precision parts.
- How it works:
01is the lookup code for 100, andCis the multiplier for 100 (100 × 100 = 10,000Ω).
