Component Overview
The charging system utilizes a Micro-USB port architecture built into a dedicated sub-board, which connects to the mainboard via a ribbon flex cable.
- Integrated Components: The sub-board houses the Micro-USB charging port, the primary microphone, and connection contacts for the loudspeaker/ringer.
- Functionality: It delivers up to 10W of standard charging, routes data transfers via USB 2.0, and carries microphone signals to the main logic board.
Common Failure Symptoms
You can easily tell if the charging flex needs to be replaced if your phone experiences any of these issues:
- No Charging: The phone fails to draw power or only charges when the cable is held at a specific angle.
- No Data Sync: The computer fails to recognize the device when plugged in via a USB cable.
- Microphone Failure: Callers cannot hear you because the voice microphone resides directly on this sub-board.
- Physical Degradation: Corroded contacts from water entry or visible tearing of the ribbon cable after dropping the phone.
